I used to love Cat Stevens.Morning has Broken is beautiful. But, he moved to Iran and supported the fatwa issued by the Ayatollah Khomeni, calling for the death of a fellow artist, Salman Rushdie. So , when I hear Cat, I change stations, How about you?

I wasn’t aware of this and wasn’t a fan anyway.

I’m not sure – but what a waste of musical talent !

Anyone who speaks of peace but calls for someone’s death is a hypocrite. So yes.

Wow, really sorry to hear that. The Cat has long been one of my faves. I always loved his “Morning is Broken” and “Peace Train.” Guess another idol of mine has fallen. Sad to hear he’s gone ballistic in his older age. Boo hoo!

I liked lots of his songs, but I don’t agree with his more recent “political opinions.” It won’t affect my listening to what I already have (or the radio), but it would my buying.

I like Cat Stevens’s music but disagree with him on other topics. This does not change my opinion of hi music, but does change my opinion of him. Same goes for Sinead O’Connor.

While I disagree with his politics and don’t fully understand his religious beliefs, neither of those change the fact that he’s a brilliant songwriter and I still love his music.

If I stopped listening to every recording artist who’s done something I consider to be objectionable, it would REALLY narrow down the pool of music I listen to!!

Someone should put a hit out on him.

    Let me correct your information:

    1. Cat Stevens never moved to Iran

    2. Cat Stevens never supported the fatwa, he was merely explaining the legal Islamic punishment for blasphemy. Also, if you are a Christian, you would know that the same thing (killing infidels) is in the bible:

Leviticus 24:16 “And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.”

By the way, “killing infidels” is not found in the Quran whatsoever, Muslims concluded this from the sayings of the prophet Muhammad, which is also not entirely authentic.

    3. If you don’t like him personally, or you don’t like his religion, that shouldn’t make you dislike his music, because in this case you would be a bigot.

    Regards..

Doesn’t deter me, as I didn’t care for his music…but then again, I don’t like Pink Floyd either. ( :

Yes definitely. I change the station. That silly singer was riding high and finding himself rich and bored decided it might be fun to become a towel headed Muslim. I hate it when silly celebrities decide they want to so stupid crap like that. He put his name on a call for a terrorist act and should be jailed. All of a sudden normal lifestyle becomes too pedestrian for them and they want to go out and do something weird. John Lennon and the Beatles were just as bad with all that business of going to India.

I had not heard this, I love his music and the last I heard from him was that he was a non violent Islamist. I will check the facts…

According to Wikipedia, he has denied those allogations and has been given several awards for promoting world peace.

aw,sheeeeeit I love Cat Stevens!!! I love Morning is Broken. I love his music in Harold and Maude. In fact, that movie reminds me of you, for reasons unbeknownst to me.

Would I stop listening to his music? Probably not, because he recorded the music when he was still a normal person.
