Muslims, if you are not allowed to draw or have pictures of?

Written by al-Ustaz on Thursday, February 5th, 2009 in Ramadan.

Belle asked:

Allah and his prophet; how come you can have pictures and depictions of Shaitan or the devil?
I would rather see divinity over evil.
Muslims do not go crazy over depictions of the devil, but if anything is drawn depicting Allah or Muhammad. Chaos breaks loose and someone gets a fatwa stuck to their name!
Who said it was limited to a cartoon? Not me.
I said pictures and depictions amongst other things. There are some really nice pictures of Jesus and Mary out there, and they do not make me laugh.

According to some a death warrant without trial, defense, etc. violates Islamic jurisprudence. In Islamic fiqh, apostasy by a mentally sound adult male is indeed a capital crime, however, Fiqh also:

… lays down procedures according to which a person accused of an offense is to be brought to trial, confronted with his accuser, and given the opportunity to defend himself. A judge will then give a verdict and if he finds the accused guilty, pronounce sentence…

Even the most rigorous and extreme of the classical jurist only require a Muslims to kill anyone who insults the Prophet in his hearing and in his presence. They say nothing about a hired killing for a reported insult in a distant country.
Other Islamic scholars outside of Iran took issue with the fact that the sentence was not passed by an Islamic court, or that it did not limit its “jurisdiction only [to] countries under Islamic law.” Muhammad Hussan ad-Din, a theologian at Al-Azhar University, argued “Blood must not be shed except after a trial [when the accused has been] given a chance to defend himself and repent.” Abdallah al-Mushidd, head of Azhar’s Fatwa Council stated “We must try the author in a legal fashion of Islam does not accept killing as a legal instrument.” [65]

The Islamic Jurisprudence Academy in Mecca urged that Rushdie be tried and, if found guilty, be given a chance to repent, and Ayatollah Mehdi Ruhani, head of the Shi’i community in Europe and a cousin of Khomeini, criticized Khomeini for `respect[ing] neither international law nor that of Islam.
There was also a question of the fatwa against Rushdie’s publishers. According to one scholar: “The Sharia clearly establishes that disseminating false information is not the same of expressing it. `Transmitting blasphemy is not blasphemy` (naql al-kufr laysa kufr). In addition, the publishers were not Muslim and so could not be “sentenced under the Islamic laws of apostasy.” If there was another legal justification for sentencing them to death, “Khomeini failed to provide” it.

The Islamic Republic’s response to calls for a trial was to denounce its Islamic proponents as “deceitful.” President Khamene’i accused them of attempting to use religious law as “a flag under which they can crush revolutionary Islam.”

Hi, I’m just curious as to what the religion of Islam has to say about a woman’s menstrual cycle. Does it have any meaning or significance? Thanks!

Also, during Ramadan, does fasting have any affect on the menstrual cycle?

Is there a fatwa or ordination against Procrastination?

Written by al-Ustaz on Monday, July 7th, 2008 in Ramadan.

`es ay ar ay. asked:

Not necessarily in performing Salat or forgetting to do your duties towards Allah (swt), but generally speaking. (i.e., being lazy, putting off work for later, stressing yourself out).

I can perform my prayers on time, but when it comes to sitting down and doing my essays or course work, I get very lazy, and put things off for the last minute. Are there any tips to get rid of this? Have there been any Islamic fatwas issued for this?

JazakAllah Khair.
Haha. That rhymes. Ordination. Procrastination. One Nation. Manifestation.

*-*
Idk. I find that when Allah (swt) asks me to do something, I have no problem following it accordingly. Or if Islam requires me to do certain things, I feel more motivated to do them..

When it comes to professors, and courses asking me to do things, it just seems pointless, and discouraging.

“Deobadiyaat is a form of Wahabiyath their ideology is to disrespect the Saints, every Deobandi is a Wahabi, and not every Wahabi is a Deobandi. Deobandi’s become Hanafi and those that are not Deobandis call themselves Ahl-e-Hadith. They possess a great deal of kufr beliefs. The Wahabis and Ahl e Hadith tend to adhere to the work “Taqwiyat ul Iman” and call it the truth. The Deoband apostates acknowledging their kufr beliefs still call them Muslims, under Islamic Law they are therefore both kaffir and should be punished accordingly”

And who are Ahlil-Hadith?

Shabbir A asked:

He Himself has declared that Shia who follow the Jafari Fiqh are Muslims and their is no sin to follow that Madhab because it is an eligible Madhab.

The following is a translation of the declaration which was published in the Egyptian and Lebanese press1)

His eminence (Sheikh Al-Azhar, Sheikh Mahmoud Shaltute) was asked: Some people view that in order to have religiously sound devotions and transactions, the Muslim has to follow one of the four known (Islamic) Madhhabs: Hanafi, Shafi’i, Hanbali, and Maliki. This excludes the two Shi’i Madhhabs: Imami (Ja’fari) and Zaydi. Do you agree with this view without qualification and advise the Muslims not to follow the Ithna-Ashari Imami (Ja’fari) school for example?
His eminence answered (by setting forth the following points as an introduction to his verdict which is the last part of his answer):
1. It is permissible to the “non-Mujtahid” (the one who is not qualified to give his own opinion or verdict in the Islamic law) to follow the opinion of any of the “Ulama” (Muslim scholars), whose knowledge and piety are believed, provided such an opinion reaches its follower in a correct and nearly certain way, directly or indirectly. We should not be concerned with a view expressed in some books which claims that the four Madhhabs are the only ones to follow or that it is not permissible for a person to change from one Madhhab to another.
Sheikh Izzuddeen, the son of Abdulsalam said: The Muslims used to seek information about the Islamic laws, from any “alim” (Muslim Scholar) they happened to meet, regardless of the school to which he belonged. And such a way of obtaining information never was disapproved (by the Muslim Scholars) until these schools (the four appeared with their followers who became so bigoted that the follower of a Madhhab would follow his “imam” (leader)………
…..even if his opinion was supportable by no evidence. He followed him as if he were a messenger prophet. This is a shyness from the truth and soundness; it should not be accepted by the people of understanding.
2. The word “Shi’a,” by which the followers of Ali (the son of Abu-Talib) are known, is derived from the word “Mushaya’ah” which means to follow. So the Shi’a of a person are his companions and followers. The name (Shi’a) has been given to many groups who disagree with Islam in many basic beliefs and laws. It is not permissible to follow the teaching of such groups because they are out of the circle of Islam.
3. There are other groups related to “Ali, ” and they are his well-guided Shi’a who oppose and condemn the misguided ones. Of these good Shi’a is the group which is known by the name of “Ja’fari” or “Imami Ithna-Ashari. ”
4. This well-known group follows principles that are taken from the Book of God and the teaching of His Messenger which reached them through their imams in both fundamental belief and Islamic law. The difference between the Ja’fari and Sunni schools is not greater than the difference among the Sunni schools themselves. They (the Ja’faris) believe in the fundamental principles of Islam as they are stated in the Glorious Qur’an and the certain teaching of the Prophet. They also believe in all the rules whose inclusion in the religion of Islam is self-evident and whose recognition is required for being a Muslim and the denial of which excludes the person from Islam .
5. The Madhhab of these Ja’fari Shi’ites in the Islamic laws is completely recorded and well-known. It has its own books, conveyers (who related the statements of the Prophet and the imams) and the supporting evidence. The authors of these books and those from whom these authors had received the (hadiths) are well-known, and their scholarly and jurisprudential ranks are respected among the Muslim scholars.
(1). This is the translation of what appeared in Al-Kifah (a Lebanese newspaper), issue of July 8, 1959.
@Adam who said Shias believ in the Infallabilty of Ayatullahs, I don’t, it is Haram to even think that way, Ayatullahs are just extremely learned scholars.

The Ayatullah I follow is Sistani, I never believed that he is infallible.

go to www.sistani.com his website

Most Shias only use Ayatullahs as references on their opinion on important subjects like Muftis.
